- Members:Body:The CILSS is implementing the regional component of an ambitious multi-stakeholder project which aims to more than double the irrigated areas of six Sahelian countries to 1 million hectares by 2020. Funded by the World Bank Group, the Sahel Irrigation Initiative Programme (SIIP) covers Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal.
- SWAC:Body:The University of Copenhagen hosted a conference on "Rural-urban connections in sub-Saharan Africa" from 25-28 January. Participants explored the impacts of mobility and urbanisation on poverty and development in sub-Saharan Africa. Thomas Allen from the Sahel and West Africa Club Secretariat at the OECD (SWAC/OECD) was invited to present on key changes in the West African agro-food value chains.
- 22 Jan 2016Country:Topics:Body:The UN Regional Humanitarian Co-ordinator for the Sahel reported progress and remaining security and development challenges following a visit to Mali. Toby Lanzer met with government representatives, local authorities, civil society leaders and humanitarian workers during his 18-22 January mission. He travelled to Gao and Kidal, where he visited aid projects and met people affected by the crisis.
