Does pastoralism still have a future in West Africa?

This issue of the Grain de Sel magazine published by Inter-réseaux, is part of a series of reflections on pastoralism in West Africa, which started in 2015. It underlines the linkages between pastoralism in the Sahel and coastal countries, which have often been neglected in development strategies. Sahelian countries could contribute to satisfy a strongly rising demand for livestock products in coastal countries. Despite increased production capacity and improved santirary conditions, coastal countries are still very far from satisfying their respective domestic demand. Production systems of coastal and Sahelian countries are not necessarily competing but complementary. The magazine compiles some 20 articles and interviews to  analyse the complex challenges related to the development of pastoralism, transhumance, conflict prevention and regional integration.
